HOW TO: Survive the return to work after maternity leave

I’ve been back working full-time for 2 months now and I’ve taken a longer break from blogging than anticipated. Mainly because I haven’t figured out how to fit everything all in and blog as well.  Granted many have trodden this path before, but my goodness how on earth do they do it?

Well I managed to do 16 days of play in #SENSORYDECEMBER (click for instagram hashtag). Considering I thought I’d only manage 6 days, 16 is pretty good going!  If you have no flipping clue what I’m on about read this post which explains what #SENSORYDECEMBER is.  In a nutshell, I challenged myself to create a new sensory activity for little dude each day in December. WITH HINDSIGHT: My Maternity Leave

My 9-month maternity leave is drawing to an end.  I’m back to work in less than a week.  I’m looking forward to it with a mixutre of excitment and apprehension.  I like working, and I always have.  It gives me a sense of accomplishment and with the jobs I’ve chosen I know I’m making a difference in the grand scheme of things. I also love being a Mum and I’ve loved being with little dude every day.  I love seeing him grow and develop. I’m concerned though on how he will settle without me, and how he will cope without being breastfed during the day. I’m going back full-time so he’s doing 2 days nursery and 3 days grandparents.  Continue reading →

HOW TO: Get a baby to take their medcine

We had an awful week last week.  Completely awful. It broke me, and it broke big dude too. Hence the reason this blog post is late.  There was a case of hand, foot and mouth, followed with impetigo, and the beginnings of a chest infection.  Not forgetting the normal teething drama. INTERVIEW: with the fantastic The Mum Reviews

This month we have an awesome interview with Nicole from The Mum Reviews. I met Nicole over a crazy #tribalchat night on Twitter and that was my first introduction to her blog.  Not only is she an awesome Mum of two, but in between mumming and working she finds time to write her blog.  Her blog is full of yummy recipes, tips on parenting and of course reviews of products and places.  Her posts come just in time for me as they always seem to strike a chord, and not only intelligently written with wit, but are insightful too. Definitely deserving of a coffee break read! Continue reading →

HOW TO: Pick yourself up

I’ve not had the greatest week.  Mummying is tough!
Being an only child, I need alone time to recharge. The only time I’ve actually had time to myself (i.e. without a little person attached to me, or without any adults talking to me) is when I went for a job interview during maternity leave (there’s a post coming up about that). I was also fairly independent pre-baby – regularly jetting off half way around the world for a holiday by myself, trotting around the country for business, having regular days out without anyone there and able to do anything at the drop of a hat.
